All she says is "I don't care"...

Parents Support One Another @ = I need help with the following issue:

I have a step-daughter who does not care about anything... we cannot get her to do anything at all. We tell her she wont get anything from us, but all she says is "I don't care". What do I do?

If your spouse doesn't say something, then you really should have the child seek some sort of mental help with her anger problem. Abuse should never be excepted whether from our spouses or our children.

Talk about it with her father. Best Idea is to send her to a camp. She is sounding like a very bratty kid. Tell the father you dont feel safe with her like that.

I would recommend you take a look at Online Parent Support by Mark Hutten, M.A. It is a step-by-step, multi-media program designed to help parents manage challenging behaviors in children and teenagers.

The program uses cognitive learning theory and behavior management techniques to help children and adolescents change their behavior. Parents learn to teach their children how to solve social problems rather than respond to these problems with defiance, blaming, anger or abusive behavior. It focuses on changing thinking rather than changing feelings to achieve better behavior—an approach that differs from traditional insight-oriented therapy.

Mark addresses the full spectrum of behavior problems in children and teens: defiance, back talk, lying, disrespect, acting out in school, homework struggles, refusal to get out of bed or do chores, tantrums, cursing, substance abuse, lack of motivation and abusive behavior. He provides specific recommendations on how to handle each behavior, with guidance on what to do and what to say to the child.

Good luck,

Marge T.
