Son has been diagnosed with ADHD, RAD, ODD, and PDD...

Parents Support One Another @ MyOutOfControlTeen.com/support = I need help with the following issue:

My 15 year old adopted son has been diagnosed with ADHD, RAD, ODD, and PDD. He refuses to do his school work and is currently home schooled and part time public. He is becoming very aggressive with me every time I try to check his work. He lies continuously about his schooling, yells, and throws things and breaks pencils. What are my options? I have called the police on him twice this past week.

it's very tough. what you need to assess is how he needs to learn. ADHD children are hyper, but doesn't mean they can't learn. It's how they need to be taught. Some are visual, where they need to see the lessons, others are touch focuses and some are audio. Whatever he needs you need to cater to it. Whoever assessed him with ADHD will give you hints to what will work for him. The other thing you can do and I just wouldn't want to do it, is the drug route.

I have 5 (combined) chidren. One of them was diiagnoised OCD/ADHD/ and Autistic. I completely understand. Find a good doctor and a therapist for you and the child. Also keep the school informed of all of the medical problems.

My son also is ADHD. I found out when he started Kindergarten last year. As a last resort I decided to put him on Strattera (pills) and he hated taking them. He would cry every morning when is was time to take his medicine. I was referred to another doctor and he suggested I put him on the Daytrana patch. It goes on in the morning and stays on for 9 hrs. He is doing 100% better in school! I feel I can now take him places without stressing out. It has changed everything! It does dry his skin out a bit but it is so much better for him than the pills.
