my son is ok at home, doesn't do any work in school and is at risk of failing 9th grade. no amount of praise/discipline/coordinated effort with school is having an effect. any suggestions?

I am in the same boat. My 14 y/o son is refusing to do any homework. We even switched schools, hoping for a fresh start, but we are back where we started. When he does the work, he gets "A"s...when he doesn't he gets "F"...which average to an "F". I have tried EVERYTHING and nothing works. So...I have LET GO. I do not nag. I remind him that I am here for him if he needs help...but that is it. I have told him that it is up to him...if he passes or flunks. I have made up my mind that it is not my fault. He is in charge of his life. And I have totally accepted that he may have to repeat 8th grade. If he does, it was his CHOICE. I cannot control what he does when he is not with me. We must repair our relationship first and then hopefully, he will come around and make better choices. It is SO hard to let go. But...I have seen a slight improvement in his attitude...and I know it will take time. I pray ALOT. Hope this helps! Hang in there!

We are having the same problems but I was scared of the boot camps. This is a program that helps them acheive their GED while teaching them structure, discipline, financial responsibilities, etc... This is our last hope. PLEASE look up the info for your state on their website, it may help you too. Just type in National Guard Youth Challenge Program in your search bar and pick your stse. try it.
